Telstra Outage

Since Friday afternoon my Internet connection has been out. The problem is a Telstra issue and they are working on getting the problem fixed urgently. Because of this problem the radio stream is not active and will not work until the network issue is fixed. So if your wanting to listen to the radio stream on the SAT FM page you won't be able until further notice.

We are hoping to have the stream back up and running as soon as we possibly can.

Bad iPhone & iPad Apps

Since getting my first iPhone which was the iPhone 3GS, I've taken a lot of notice to the apps I've purchased and installed on my iPhone. Like all the products I've purchased, one of the things I hate the most is companies not updating their software or firmware for their products. One of this apps, which I loved using was iStat for iPhone. Since Apple released the iPhone 4 this app has not worked correctly and after contacting them many times and getting the same answer, "we're working on it" nothing happens. How bloody hard can it be to fix the problem and release an update? I'm now having the same issue with Netgear and their 3G wireless routers they sell in Australia. These router work with the phone carriers USB modems. Telstra last month publicly released their new 4G LTE network and are now only supplying these new USB modems to their customers. If your old one breaks down and you need it replaced Telstra will only supply you with one of their 4G modems. Now this is great if you plug the modem straight into your computer and don't want to share the connection with other devices like your iPhone or iPad. If you have a 3G router like Netgear's your out of luck, these new modems won't work. Now I hear you saying, well of course it won't work, the router is for 3G networks and not 4G. Well I ask this, how on earth is the router going to know what network the modem is working with? All that is needed is a firmware update so the router know how to connect. I connected Netgear about this and was told they have no plans to update this router to handle the new Telstra 4G modems. What the!!!! Telstra is the biggest telco in Australia and Netgear is saying, oh well we don't care about their customers. Very stupid in my mind. I now have a wireless router I can't use and now have an issue of sharing my connection with my other devices. NOT HAPPY.

Now talking about being not happy and poor service from software makers, I now start on the biggest company's that don't give a shit, FaceBook. The other month they released an updated app for the iPhone and with this update they brought support for the iPad. This is great news if the stupid app worked. This app has clearly not been tested enough, it fails to load, only half works and at times just doesn't load pages or allow you to scroll down. All these issues if it even loads without crashing. I have now deleted the app and gone back to using Safari for FaceBook.

I really HATE companies that show they don't give a shit about their customer/users. Its even worse when you have paid for the app. Lift your game people or else I will not use your products and I will tell others to do the same.

Spring Time & You Know What That Means?

We have had two days of warm weather in the high 20's to low 30's. The rain is coming, well meant to be coming and staying for a few days. This doesn't mean the temps are going to drop thou. It's mean to say in the high 20's throughout. Anyhow tonight I had a meeting to go to for our local rescue squad and on returning home I came across (see above photo) this crossing my driveway. I think we're going to be in for a bad Summer for them if we're starting to see them already. I don't have a problem with them but knowing this one was a baby you have to ask yourself where the rest of the family is. Not if it was a spider that would be a different thing for me. I HATE spiders, I really HATE spiders.

It's been a few days now since Apple released iOS 5 to the world and after playing with it now for a few days I'm liking it but not totally. The issue I'm having with it is iMessage. I have a few friends, yes I do have friends, and they either own iPhones or iPads. Some of them only own a iPad and this is where things break down. One of my friends have a Nokia 2730 mobile and a iPad. They have signed up to use iCloud and iMessage. This shouldn't be an issue but when you go to send them a SMS from my iPhone to their mobile, the iPhone sends it as a iMessage. This would be fine if I was sending it to their iPad but sending a SMS via iMessage to a phone that can't understand iMessages is a bit stupid. With the iPhone sending it via iMessage is either adding (about) 5 to 10 minutes to the turn the SMS is send to the time it's received can be an issue. In some cases they never receive the SMS. Sending a SMS from iPhone to iPhone or iPad to iPad works fine, in fact it's very fast.

The way I would have though Apple would have had iMessage working would be like the following,

Sending a text message to a mobile number is would be sent as a normal SMS, if you send a text message to a Apple ID, eg; email address it would be sent as a iMessage. Having it set up to send as a iMessage by default is adding time to when a text message is sent and received. In some cases making it totally useless.

I do hope Apple looks into this and fixes this in an update to iOS very soon.

Domain Moved

Today I got my domain name pointing to my new Squarespace website. So now it's no longer pointing to my Mobile Me website. I'm a little disappointed that Apple is closing down there iWeb app as I found it very easy to use. I now just have to work out how to design and manage this new web service. Like iCloud and iOS 5 I'll work it out over time and get used to it.

At this moment I'm really liking that I ca use an app on either my iPhone or iPad to update my blog and post to it. This makes it much easier to post and I don't have to worry about having my laptop nearby to post to my blog. It why I used to like VOX when it was around. You could email posts into it from your phone but it was very basic and you would have to login into it once you got home or to your computer to fix it up. Of course this was all pre iPhone days and when the only real smartphones that we're around we're phones like Nokia's N95 and the like.

Anyhow that's enough playing for one night.
